An activation code names its product and edition, and so does the receipt. If neither is to hand, your account lists every code you hold.

One server. Then only what each desk needs.

The current release, for 64-bit Windows and macOS. Install the Ratelsoft Applications Server first, or take a bundle that includes it. Three situations cover almost everybody; the full register is under them, and every earlier release from version 2 is under that.

  1. Setting up a new server

    Take the four-in-one bundle. It installs the Applications Server, the Designer, the Manager and the Client in the right order, in one run, on the machine that will host sittings. One download: 481 MB.

  2. The server is already there

    If SmartSkool put the Ratelsoft Applications Server on the machine, add only the SmartExaminer Client module on top of it — 152 MB — and do not run the server installer again.

  3. Another desk for a teacher

    The Designer and the Manager install on any number of machines and need no server of their own. Windows or Mac. The Manager is the only one that will ask for a licence.

Before you install anything on a server

The Ratelsoft Applications Server underpins both SmartExaminer and SmartSkool. Installing it a second time on a machine that already has it can destroy the data already there. If you are upgrading rather than starting fresh, talk to us first.

The last version 3 build. Take it only to match an existing 3.1.1 installation; a subscription runs 4.0.0 at no extra cost.

The first release for 64-bit only, and the last one-off purchase. One-off licences stay on the features they shipped with.

Only if version 4 will not install on your hardware. It still installs and activates; it is no longer developed. It ships its own, older Applications Server — do not mix it with version 3.

The server

Installed once. Never over itself.

One machine in the school is the server, and every mistake worth warning about on this page happens on it. Four rules, from the installation notes, and the minimum it has to be.

  • Install the Applications Server first Then the SmartExaminer Client on the same machine, then whichever of the others you want. The bundles do this for you, in this order.
  • Never install it twice on one machine Running the server installer over a server that already exists can destroy the data on it. Upgrading? Ask us first; a migration is a conversation, not a download.
  • Version 3 does not read version 2 Applications Server 3 is not compatible with version 2 or below. If SmartExaminer 2.x is on the machine, back up and ask us about migration before installing anything.
  • Deactivate before you format Deactivate the Manager before formatting or anything else destructive, then reactivate it afterwards. Otherwise the licence stays tied to a machine that no longer exists.

The Manager and the server can sit on different machines; the same machine is faster.

Each edition carries that year's syllabus and past questions. Install the edition your activation code is for; the older ones stay here for anyone still on them.

Upgrading from 2025 costs ₦1,000 — in this order

The upgrade code only works on a machine where the 2025 edition is already activated. Install 2026, open it, check that it has found your existing activation, and then buy the upgrade. Buy first and the code will not take.

A licence is per device, for the lifetime of that device, and one installation keeps a separate profile for each person who uses it. About SmartLearn JAMB.

SmartSkool · Suite 3 (3.0.6)

Two files, in this order.

SmartSkool installs onto Ratelsoft Applications Server 3 or above. Install the server first — and install SmartSkool on the server machine itself as well as on every office that will use it.

SmartSkool 3 is not compatible with version 2

Applications Server 3 does not read version 2 or below. If SmartSkool 2 or SmartExaminer 2.x is on the machine, back up your data and talk to us about migration before you install this — or the records already there are the price.

Trouble installing?

The four things that go wrong, and what to do.

None of these is a fault in your machine. They are what a large, unsigned installer on a slow line looks like from the other side.

  • Windows says the publisher is unknown Choose "More info", then "Run anyway". Our installers are not signed with a commercial certificate, so SmartScreen warns about them the first time.
  • The download stops part-way Some of these files are several hundred megabytes. The link is the file itself, so your browser can resume rather than restart; on a metered line, a wired connection or the office's line is kinder than a phone's.
  • Which version do I need? The one you hold a licence for. Sign in to your account — your activation codes list the product and edition they belong to.
  • My machine is 32-bit SmartExaminer 2.0.0 is the last edition that runs on 32-bit Windows. It is under earlier releases; it still installs, but it is no longer developed.

There is no gate. If a page asks you for a phone code before a download, it is not this one.
